plasticity
Plasticity is one of the key properties of unvulcanised rubber that is tested and is mostly used to ensure the uniformity and quality of repeat batches.
Ultratest offer a plastimeter which uses a simple, clean, fast and proven testing procedure. This uses a modified parallel plate compression principle to compress and condition the sample for 15 seconds at 100°C at a thickness of 1mm. 100N is then applied for 15 seconds, with the final thickness of the test piece expressed in rapid plasticity units. One unit represents 0.001mm.
The plastimeter may be used in conjunction with an ageing chamber to determine the Plasticity Retention Index (PRI) of raw natural rubber.
